Maina speaks English in
Spain.
In 1965, Maina
attended Emilito and Heide's wedding in West Germany. Following
that, accompanied by her daughter Carmen and son-in-law Emilio, got to
return to Madrid for the first time in 56 years. Among other
things ("all the cars!") she asked the person behind the reception desk
of the hotel a question. When he answered her, she said
"¿Pero por que me habla Vd. en inglés? (Why are you
speaking to me in English?)" He answered "Porque Vd. me hizo la
pregunta en inglés (Because you asked me the question in
English)." On reflection, she reckoned that perhaps she had."
