He appeared in the census in 1875 in Madrid, Spain.53 He was living with Francisco GRACIANI PASTOR and his family at Calle del Colmillo, 9, tienda. Juan was listed as "sobrino." Juan appeared in the census in 1882 at C/ San Cosme, 14 in Madrid, Spain.86 He appeared in the census in 1890 in Madrid, Spain.79 He was simply Juan GRACIANI and lving with the family of Paulino DELGADO and Alejandrina CARO (and Dolores GRACIANI, Alejandrina's mother). They lived at Calle San Cosme, 14 y 16, cuarto bajo. He was married, and also in this household was a married woman Matilde GONZALES and two children Adolfo and Enrique CALMACI. The assumption is - with no proof - that these are his wife and children. He appeared in the census in 1905 in Madrid, Spain.87 He was listed as Juan GRACIANI CALMACI (note inverted surnames) living with an apparently unrelated family (Josefa ESPINA POMPA and her daughters Josefa and Micaela CRESPO ESPINA), They lived at Calle San Dimas, 9, cuarto guardilla. His relation to the head of family was listed as "Compº" (compañero, companion). Both Juan and Josefa were listed as widowed. Juan CALMACI GRACIANI and Matilde GONZALES were married between 1876 and 1882.79 The assumption that these two people are married is based on the fact that both lived in the same household in 1890, both were listed as married, and there were two children in the household surnamed CALMACI of ages appropriate for children of these two adults. (Juan, who is named Juan GRACIANI on the 1890 census, is certainly the same person named Juan CALMACI GRACIANI in the 1875 census.) Date of marriage based on Juan being single in 1875 and the first recorded child born in May 1883. Matilde GONZALES79 was born on 18 December 1852 in Madrid, Spain.79 She died before 1905.87 In the 1905 census, Juan Calmaci Graciani is listed as a widow.
