Well, that headline is not exactly true; Emily Henrich, just turned 15, has been selected to play for Atlantis' first-ever U-16 girls’ team at the Las Vegas Invitational Sevens in February 2015 but that hasn't happened yet. Her mother, 44-year old Lisa Huff Henrich, Atlantis #331 (and just #36 chronologically among the Atlantis women), represented Atlantis in the 1996 New York Sevens, and the 1998 Cape Fear Sevens.  In 1996 Lisa was on Atlantis 2, who knocked off Guelph - who had beaten Atlantis 1 - in the final.  In the 1998 Cape Fear Sevens, Atlantis was a finalist, losing to the Maryland Stingers in the final. Emily will be somewhere in the vicinity of Atlantis #1100 when she plays in Las Vegas.

Olde Love has traditionally been a team of mostly New York Rugby Club alumnae, but this year there were several players brought from other places including standout Samoan Tiffany Faaee - and mom and daughter Henrich, from the Buffalo area.

And just to add a bit more connection with the family, I also coached Emily's father Chris Henrich when I did a stint as an Assistant Coach to George Betzler at Philadelphia-Whitemarsh in the 1990s.  Although I was primarily responsible for the backs, I'm sure I said at least a couple of wise things to the forwards, where Chris was toiling in the front row.

Lisa (FH) and Emily (C) were the midfield combo for Olde Love and between them they scored more than 80 of Olde Love's 137 points. Emily led the pair with 10 tries and 2 conversions, with Mom holding those numbers in reverse order with 2 tries and 10 conversions.

Playing in the Women's Social Division, Olde Love began with 2 shutout victories over RCM II and the Savvy Scrummers, 19-0 and 39-0. Following a 31-7 victory over Brooklyn in the quarterfinal, they finished up with two victories over Toronto area teams, the Markham Irish (24-7) and Les Felines, the women of Toronto Rugby Club. The final was another shutout, 24-0.

Atlantis congratulates one of its Olde Girls, and looks forward to welcoming one of its youngest ever.
