The Men's Aces' effort was given impetus by the availability of several really good players beyond the limit of 12 allowed to Atlantis Elite as well as the availability of several players from Jason Fox's excellent Notre Dame College team from Cleveland.  In the end we had an excellent side and by the time we got it together, against the Army, were very unfortunate not to get into the semifinals.

Pool Matches.  Atlantis Men's Aces played its first two pool matches at Heritage Park, a 15-minute ride from Sam Boyd Stadium, on Thursday.

The team's planned preparations were crushed by the weather in the East and very few people made the planned Tuesday night arrival and in fact there was only one brief 20-minute practice on Wednesday night. Coach Jason Fox felt that this turned out to be very hurtful as the team had basically no preparation.

Atlantis 7 US Air Force 19

Atlantis jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a try by Tommy Walsh.  In the end, however, Air Force's size turned out to be Atlantis undoing as Air Force was able to keep possession with a very physical game.

Atlantis 33 US Navy 17.

Although Atlantis lost this game, several players stood out, including Shawn Riley, John White, and Cory Graham.

Atlantis 5 Humless 22.   Humless - a team made up of mostly Islanders from BYU - was clearly the standout of the tournament, and easily won the championship.  Atlantis again jumped out to a 5-0 lead before giving up the momentum and the game.

Quarterfinal.

Atlantis 17 US Army 19.  I have no details on this game.

Atlantis Elite lost Jimmy Rosato to an injury on the first day of play, and Atlantis Aces donated Shawn Riley to the effort, losing a lot of its firepower in the process.  Shawn played well for the Men's Elite, but in the end both teams lost tight matches in the elimination round.  Atlantis was knocking on the door for the winning try as the game ended.

Both Omar and Jason Fox were pleased by Atlantis' play and felt they improved continuously as the tournament went on.  If we can only plan winter weather better ...

Although we didn't keep a detailed record of individual scoring, Cory Graham and John White were the team's leading scorers.
